Job Description

Job Title: Community Engagement Organizer

Job Status: Full-time

Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Community Engagement Organizer works to strengthen and deepen the organization’s relationships with communities in and around the Metro Detroit area. Increasing the visibility of issues that empower communities that are directly related to the organization. Responsible for leading and coordinating invitations to the organization and scheduling interviews. Engage in outreach and communication with other member organizations and the community, ensuring timely communication of information and materials. Maintain positive working relationships with members, community partners and stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategically represent the organization by maintaining a visible presence within the assigned communities
  • Facilitate onsite group visits from community partnerships including welcoming groups and conducting post-visit and follow ups
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with community partners in order to help enrich the arts in local communities.
  • Provide strategic opportunities to increase access to the organization for audiences in assigned communities
  • Leverages and/or builds trusting, authentic relationships with a variety of community residents, leaders and organizations and finds rewards in engaging different groups with new artistic and cultural experiences
  • Lead projects from development through implementation, garnering internal approvals as needed
  • Facilitate focus group meetings and community surveys as needed
  • May interpret/translate information for program participation as needed
  • Oversee volunteer program and integrate volunteers effectively and into the organization to enhance performance and results of the programs
  • Work with HR to recruit volunteers and assign them in appropriate departments that require volunteers
  • Maintains database of community and institutional partnerships
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Arab/Middle Eastern issues and culture
  • Arabic spoken language is preferred

Skill in:

  • Community Outreach
  • Establish and maintain relationship with community members
  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office

Ability to:

  • Work independently, exercise initiative and good judgment to successfully organize and complete assignments
  • Maintain effective working relationships and thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable public speaking and serving in a public facing role
  • Create opportunity for community members to engage in dialogue
  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
  • Associate degree
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Required Disciplines:
    • Community Engagement, Communications, or related field

  • Must be a highly motivated individual with 2-4 years’ experience working with communities. Must have experience in cultivating relationships by connecting with residents and community groups, identifies partnership opportunities, and implements strategic and approved initiatives. Experience working with diverse volunteers, customers, and donors is required or any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources.

Working Conditions:

Hours: Normal business hours, some additional hours may be required. The candidate must have the ability to work late hours and weekends, as requested.

Travel Required: Some travel required, must have reliable transportation.
