A leading provider of innovative insurance solutions for high-value personal property is seeking a seasoned Senior Underwriter to join its dynamic team. The company specializes in offering comprehensive coverage for jewelry, watches, fine art and other valuables, ensuring clients receive tailored protection that meets their unique needs. The role involves making informed risk decisions, assessing detailed documentation and collaborating with various teams to uphold underwriting standards. Based in a flexible work environment within the state, the senior underwriter will own a diverse book of work, evaluate risks through appraisal and applicant profiles and communicate with clients directly to provide exceptional service.

Responsibilities:

• Review referred quotes and applications to evaluate risk and make sound underwriting decisions, documenting the rationale comprehensively.
• Analyze photo and appraisal documentation to assess authenticity and acceptability in support of new and in-force policies.
• Determine insured values by evaluating appraisals, requested coverage limits and internal pricing tools, initiating checks as necessary.
• Conduct detailed risk reviews on applicant profiles including decline, cancellation and loss history checks.
• Identify red flags across an application, the item insured and supporting documentation, escalating issues as needed.
• Issue, request additional information, adjust limits and recommend cancellations or escalations for complex cases.
• Clearly document reasoning to ensure compliance with audit and peer review standards.
• Communicate directly with customers via various channels to resolve documentation issues and answer coverage or policy questions.
• Collaborate with underwriting assistants to verify work quality, process files efficiently and provide feedback.
• Participate in team discussions focusing on product enhancement, risk appetite and process improvements.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of underwriting experience in personal lines property insurance
• Proven experience independently making issuance, decline and cancellation decisions
• Ability to identify risk indicators across full applicant profiles
• Experience with direct customer communication via phone, email and chat
• Strong written skills to document reasoning clearly
• Comfortable working with proprietary technical systems and learning new tools quickly
• Sound judgment in high-volume, fast-paced environments
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional underwriting experience

Salary Range:

The anticipated salary for this position is $80,000.00 annually. We understand salary is an important factor in a job search and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
